On culture cuts

A regular subject of this blog is the looming cuts in Arts Council funding of the theatre. On Radio 4, there was a hot discussion between actor Samuel West (who knows what he’s talking about) and Mark Littlewood of the rightwing Institute of Economic Affairs (who doesn’t). Guess whose side I’m on? Anyway, it’s a very good summary of the arguments for and against, between state funding and private capital. “Arts are not elitist” versus “Shakespeare didn’t need an Arts Council grant” — great stuff.
